A long and healthy career at LHF
Sheila Blackburn from Halton in Leeds started her career with LHF Healthplan, formerly know as Leeds Hospital Fund, back in 1965.
Today Sheila is still a member of the dedicated team at LHF that works hard to look after the health and well-being of its members across Yorkshire.
Sheila started her career at LHF as an office junior and after 42 years of service she has worked in almost every department and has experienced a variety of different roles at the organisation.
She explains: “I started my career working as an office junior, I was responsible for filing, running errands, making cups of tea and sorting the post.
“I never planned to be here for 42 years, but now I wouldn’t want to work anywhere else. I still enjoy the job, interacting with our members and working with my colleagues, even after all this time.”
Sheila now works as a team leader in the customer accounts department at LHF, which she claims is her favourite position to date: “I have been working in the customer accounts department for over 20 years and I would like to stay in this role until I retire. Everyday is different, the variety keeps things new, interesting and enjoyable.”
Over the last 42 years, Sheila has made good use of her healthplan to keep her healthy well and fit for work from LHF, claiming money back towards a variety of healthcare treatments, including dental and optical checks as well as physiotherapy and chiropody treatments.
Commenting on Sheila’s time at LHF, member services director Raman Sankaran said: “Sheila has demonstrated an exceptional level of commitment, loyalty and dedication to LHF and she has contributed significantly to our business.
“I don’t think I have ever met anyone who enjoys their job as much as Sheila, she often shares fond and funny memories from over the years and is a real asset to the team.”
Sheila is a huge Leeds United fan and has supported the team for longer than she would like to admit, she also enjoys travelling and has just returned from a well-deserved break in Canada.
An animal lover, Sheila would like to work with animals on a voluntary basis when she retires.
A healthplan from LHF can help individuals and families budget towards a whole host of everyday healthcare treatments, such as regular check-ups at the dentist and eye-tests at the optician, from as little as £3.06 per week.
LHF is one of Yorkshire’s leading healthcare providers and has been looking after the health and well-being of people across Yorkshire for 120 years.
