St John Ambulance receives a further £30,000 from LHF
The Convalescent Home Charitable Trust of Leeds-based LHF Healthplan has made a further donation of £30,000 to St. John Ambulance, South and West Yorkshire from the proceeds of the sale of its convalescent home.
The sizeable donation has been used to upgrade and refurbish the charity’s fleet of life saving emergency vehicles.
A new four wheel drive ambulance has been added to the fleet. The only one owned by the service in the South and West Yorkshire region, the ambulance will be able to reach more difficult areas and enable patients to be moved from the scene of an accident in speed and comfort.
Two existing units, a large casualty treatment unit and a mobile first aid unit, previously donated from Leeds Hospital Fund Charitable Trust to St John Ambulance have been extensively renovated to ensure that they have the very latest life saving equipment and technology on board.
A special ceremony was held to mark the delivery of the refurbished units and new four wheel drive ambulance at the St. John Ambulance headquarters in Ossett. Present at the ceremony from St. John Ambulance, South and West was commander Dr. John Shortland, deputy commander, Gordon Tollefson and executive director Phillip Gee.
Also present was member services director at LHF, Raman Sankaran and business services and administration co-ordinator at LHF, Christine Goodall, together with Colin Asquith to whom the ambulance was dedicated in recognition of his sterling service over many years as a Trustee of The Convalescent Home Charitable Trust.
Commenting on the donation, deputy commander of St John Ambulance, Gordon Tollefson said: "St John Ambulance is a registered charity that is dependent on donations to continue with its charitable mission. Without the ongoing support of organisations such as LHF, we would not be able to save so many lives across the region. This is another sizeable donation for us for which we are extremely grateful."
Member services director at LHF, Raman Sankaran added: “This donation has only been made possible through funds from the sale of our convalescence home. The Convalescent Home Trustees were very keen to ensure that all monies from the sale of the home went to local causes that would benefit the people of Leeds. St. John Ambulance is a very worthy local cause and I know the donation will enable them to provide life saving services to our local community for many years to come.
The Trustees are committed to donate all monies from the sale of the Convalescence Home to local charities that meet the objectives of the Trust.
An independent charity with no Government funding, St. John Ambulance volunteers provide a range of services from first aid at public events to emergency response and training courses.
LHF is one of Yorkshire’s leading healthplan providers. A mutual organisation, it exists purely for the benefit of its members and continues to make regular charitable donations to charities throughout Yorkshire.
